National Philoptochos announces a new program: An Orthodox Christian Telephone Cancer Support Group

A telephone cancer support group for Orthodox Christians, 21+, who are undergoing cancer treatment is being initiated by the National Philoptochos Department of Social Services. Via conference call and at no cost to participants, the discussion group will be accessible to members of our community nationwide on six consecutive Thursday evenings beginning January 11- February 15, 2018, 7:00 pm-8:00 pm, EST.  The group will be facilitated by Theodora Ziongas, M.A., who has a strong background in cancer patient services through positions she has held at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society and CancerCare.  Additional details are available here.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Persons interested in joining the discussion group can preregister by emailing supportgroup@philoptochos.org. To maintain confidentiality- a foundation for all of our social services - this email address is designated specifically and solely for this program.

Philoptochos Mission Statement

The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, Inc., is the duly accredited women's philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

The mission of the Society shall be:

  • To help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, to undertake the burial of impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts; and

  • To promote the charitable, benevolent, and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, through instructional programs, presentations, lectures, seminars and other educational resources;

  • To preserve and perpetuate Orthodox Christian concepts and the Orthodox Christian Family, and through them, to promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions, in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages and customs;

  • To promote participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

The charitable work of the Society shall be performed with discretion, courtesy and kindness.


Following Worship Services on Sunday July 16, elections for Philoptochos Officers for the term 2017 – 2019 were held in St. Catherine’s Chapel.  The new officers are:
