Assumption Greek Orthodox Church
Mission Statement

The diakonia (ministry) of the Parish will include proclaiming and teaching the Gospel in accordance with the Orthodox faith; sanctifying the faithful through God's grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy and the other sacraments; enhancing its parishioners’ spiritual life; and adding to the numbers of the faithful by receiving persons into the Church through instruction, baptism and/or chrismation. In addition, the Parish shall establish educational and philanthropic activities to foster the aims and mission of the Parish and to edify its parishioners in the faith and ethos of the Church. The Parish shall also engage in such inter-Orthodox, ecumenical and interfaith activities as are consistent with the policies of the Archdiocese. (Uniform Parish Regulations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Section Three, Part One, Article 1, Section 4)

The mission of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church is to:

1. maintain, practice, and proclaim the Christian Orthodox faith, enhancing the spiritual growth of its communicants and enabling parishioners to fully participate in the life of the Church and find salvation in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior;

2. develop and operate programs, activities, and services for the Parishioners which serve and further the religious educational, cultural, philanthropic, and social ministries of the community as well as to protect and continuously develop the physical buildings and religious property as deemed necessary;

3. fostering our youth, the future of our church, blossom as Orthodox Christians;

4. dedicate ourselves to the promotion of Christian fellowship and values between the evolving diversity of cultures and its people.

This sacred mission is fulfilled in the Holy Spirit through the following expressions of ministry:

·         A worship ministry, which nurtures the faithful through regular participation in the sacred services and holy mysteries of the Church.

·         A teaching ministry, which strives to educate and inspire the faithful through the Sacred Scriptures and Holy Tradition of the Church.

·         An outreach ministry, which fulfills the command of Jesus Christ to reach out to the sick and needy, to serve the least of our brethren, and to spread the Gospel both locally and throughout the world.

·         A hospitality ministry, which welcomes visitors and new members to the community with love and respect, and which actively embraces the parish’s involvement with other churches.

·         A fellowship ministry, which provides a variety of opportunities for all members of the parish to share in activities with one another through appropriate cultural, social and educational events that reflect the life, faith and cultural heritage of the community.

·         A stewardship ministry, which engenders the faithful dedication of the time, talents and treasures of parishioners in support of the ministries of the Church to the glory of God.

In accepting this mission we acknowledge and confess that it is not in our power alone to accomplish this divine and sacred work.  We will succeed only through the use of our own God-given gifts blessed by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father, and the communion and fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

AXIOS!! Welcome to Fr. Dimitrios Burikas and Presbytera Danielle:

Father Timothy, the Parish Council and the entire Panagia Parish welcome Fr. Dimitrios and Presbytera Dannielle to our Parish of Panagia.  We hope that your Ministry will be a fruitful and a productive one, and pray that you be blessed abundantly as you Serve Our Lord and His Church.

Establishment of Assumption Prayer Ministry:

The Assumption Adult Bible Study Group has developed an idea that may be of interest to parishioners and friends of our Panagia Parish.  They are interested in being able to form a ministry comprised of individuals who would like to pray for the health of those individuals who may be ill or experiencing health issues.  Our Orthodox Faith teaches us that the ‘power of prayer’ literally works miracles, and Jesus instructs us in the Bible that we should “always pray for one another in the fellowship of love and through the Holy Spirit”.   As a Panagia Parish, we are united as brothers and sisters in Christ, and we are encouraged to pray for one another as any family would do.  So, how do we plan to do it?  It’s simple, easy, and spiritually uplifting and rewarding.  Here is what we can all do:

If you are interested in participating, you need only submit your name and email address to the Church Office or Fr. Timothy.

  • When a name is submitted to be prayed for, you will be contacted by email, given the first name of the person to be prayed for, along with the prayer to be read by you, offering the prayer for the intercession of God upon that individual, and asking that the afflicted be healed by God’s abundant blessing.
  • Your prayer, together along with the many others who are offering a prayer for the person who is ill, will bring comfort beyond comprehension.

Just think about that….our prayers collectively praying for a person who needs the loving and tender Hand of God during his/her special time of need.  It’s that simple.  Just provide us with your email address, and you can join this ministry team who will pray for the person who needs help the most.  It costs nothing, takes only a few seconds to do, but will make us all part of a spiritual family that looks and cares for one another.
